Genevieve Lacey and Karin
Schaupp
Sat 18th Sept 2010
This duo brings together two of Australia's most
internationally revered soloists.
Melbourne-based Genevieve Lacey is quite simply one of the
greatest recorder players on
earth, and her dazzling virtuosity makes you rethink your
whole attitude towards the
instrument. Brisbane-based Karin Schaupp is one of the
most outstanding guitarists on the
international scene; she performs with a passion and
poetry that has had composers
falling over themselves to write works for her. The duo
first performed together at the 2004
Barossa Festival in South Australia to high acclaim, and
discovered an instant rapport,
both musically and personally. Since then, all around
Australia, their concerts have been
received by rapturous audiences, and their CD Songs
Without Words (released with ABC
Classics in May 2006) reaffirms how perfectly these two
intimate instruments complement
one another. Their 2010 concert program ranges
from the
Renaissance to the present day,
from sonatas to folksongs, and is interspersed with solos
from each artist.

Genevieve Lacey is
a recorder virtuoso, and performs repertoire spanning ten centuries with
commanding passion. She has a substantial recording
catalogue with ABC Classics, including
the ARIA award-winning Il
flauto dolce (Best Classical
Recording 2001) and her newest album
weaver of fictions released
in 2008. Genevieve performs extensively as a concerto soloist,
touring nationally and internationally with the Australian
Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian
Chamber Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music (UK), English
Concert (UK), Malaysian
Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Melbourne, West Australian
and Queensland Symphony
Orchestras. She also works as a solo recitalist in
Australia and Europe, is strongly committed
to contemporary music, and collaborates on new works with
Australian and international
composers. Genevieve's performances have been described
by The Guardian (London) as
“combining sensuality, wit and mind boggling flamboyance”,
and by The Age (Australia) as
“fluttering poetry”. www.genevievelacey.com!!
Karin Schaupp is
one of the most outstanding young guitarists on the international scene.
She is a passionate and lyrical performer whose playing
has been hailed by the German press
as “so perfect, so complete, that it seems like a
miracle”. The Sydney Morning Herald reported
“every time Karin picks up the guitar is a treat …
exceptionally beautiful”. Karin performs
widely on the international stage, as a recitalist,
concerto soloist and festival guest, and her
unique stage presence and magical, passionate playing have
inspired several composers to
write works especially for her. Karin's orchestral
engagements include the London
Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Tasmanian Symphony
and Springfield Symphony
(USA). Karin's recordings on the Warner and ABC labels
include five solo CDs, four concerto
CDs and various collaborations, including three albums
with ARIA-award winning Saffire, The
Australian Guitar Quartet. www.karinschaupp.com

BWV 1011
Daniel Yeadon originally studied cello and piano in the North of
England. He graduated in physics at Oxford University and subsequently
worked as a scientific book editor for Longman Publishing Company in
London. The lure of music soon proved too strong and Daniel moved on to
the Royal College of Music to gain a Diploma in Early Music Performance.
After training with the European Community Baroque Orchestra Daniel
became principal cellist of the renowned period instrument ensemble
Florilegium, performing throughout the world at major venues such as the
Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London and the Sydney
Opera House. With Florilegium Daniel has made twelve CD recordings for the
Dutch company Channel Classics.
In 1995 Daniel joined the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, playing on both
modern and period instruments. With the Quartet he appeared at all the
major UK music festivals, toured the USA and Russia and made frequent
radio and CD recordings.
Daniel has taught cello and viola da gamba at the Royal College of Music
and the Royal Academy of Music in London, at Cambridge and York
Universities in the UK, and also at Bucknell and Penn State Universities
in the USA.
Daniel has now made Sydney his home and regularly appears with Salut!
Baroque, Sinfonia Australis, Pinchgut Opera, Opera Australia, and the
Australian Bach Ensemble. He will continue to perform regularly with many
of the London-based period instrument ensembles including the English
Baroque Soloists, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The
King's Consort.
